Cane

APF's sugar cane mulch is produced from the leaves and bark of the sugar cane plant left as ground residue after harvest. This sugar cane by-product is called cane trash. Trash when mulched and applied according to guidelines, introduces organic matter to the soil, encourages earthworm activity and improves soil condition. It is excellent for use in orchards and all gardens. In past years cane trash was raked into piles and burnt but now this waste product is being used as a ground cover and slow release fertiliser Australia wide. In recent years the sale of cane trash has been a welcome supplement to growers' incomes. APF's sugar cane mulch, which is marketed under the Virgin Mulch and Earthwise brand names, has the following characteristics:

  • a BFA organically certified product

  • 100% biodegradable

  • controls weeds and improves root growth

  • has high moisture retention properties resulting in less watering

  • provides plant nutrition

  • light in colour and texture

  • a medium length cut product

  • dust is extracted during processing for a cleaner product

  • available in 15-18 kg bags for value and convenience
